OCLC Enhances WorldCat.org
OCLC announced that the latest enhancement to WorldCat.org is a link to WorldCat Identities (www.worldcat.org/identities), an OCLC research prototype that creates a summary page for some 25 million personal and corporate authors mentioned in WorldCat. In addition, research journal articles discoverable on WorldCat.org now include links to the British Library Direct service, where electronic copies of the articles may be purchased. British Library Direct offers pay-as-you-go access to 20,000 international research journals in many fields.WorldCat Identities presents an “identity” or profile of a particular person or company based on information and associations stored in the WorldCat bibliographic database. Profiled people can be authors, musicians, actors, directors, and others in key creative roles; profiled companies can be publishers, film studios, and other firms responsible for releasing a work. Links to WorldCat Identities are now available beneath the Details tab of WorldCat.org records in the About the Authors section. A WorldCat Identities profile includes an interactive publication timeline, audience level bar graph, links to the profiles of related people or companies, and a tag cloud of associated subject headings. An Identities profile takes the holdings and metadata contributed by its cataloging member libraries and uniquely reuses them to create a reference page with broad appeal to Web users. Source: OCLC

Reprints Desk and the American Society for Interventional Pain Physicians Announce Agreement to Provide Streamlined Reprint and ePrint Services
Los Angeles, California (September 27, 2006) -- Reprints Desk announced today that it has reached an agreement with the American Society for Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP), the publishers of Pain Physician, to offer streamlined, customer-focused Reprint and ePrint services.
"Reprints and ePrints are important methods of scholarly communication and information dissemination and we are pleased to provide a full service web-based reprint service bureau to an organization of the stature and value of ASIPP" said Jan Peterson, Head of Publisher Relations at Reprints Desk. "ASIPP can concentrate on editorial and content matters while Reprints Desk focuses on servicing their readers' reprint needs.
Reprints Desk will offer paper reproduction services of ASIPP's Open Access peer-reviewed journal Pain Physician, as well as PDF distribution options for customized ePrints, protected by DRM (digital rights management). In addition Reprints Desk will provide ASIPP with a co-branded website for placing orders, requesting quotes and tracking orders, as well as an outsourced phone, email, and web-based customer service functions.
"It's a synergistic relationship that allows us to maximize our communication opportunites and minimize administrative duties. We're excellent at meeting the challenges of peer demands, information accessibility, and initial content distribution" said ASIPP CEO Laxmaiah Manchikanti, M.D. "but there is demand for on-going use of valuable content, whether by the healthcare community that needs to get the word out about clinical trial results, or authors who want to promote and share their work with colleagues. Reprints Desk understands content re-purposing, from a practical perspective, as well as the needs and interests of the consumer."
"Copyright compliance and ease of use are the drivers behind this partnership. While Open Access publications desire to make their material broadly available, there are challenges in protecting and honoring the value of the content when third parties have a keen interest in distributing in a manner of their choice. That's where Reprints Desk steps in. We offer options for reproduction and copyright compliance in ways that meets the needs of all parties," said Peter Derycz, President of Reprints Desk.

The organization has been growing rapidly since 1998 and has had a substantial impact on the practice of interventional pain management. Its name has been changed to American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians-PAC.
